Provides a range of recreational opportunities for all ages in a fun, safe, and positive environment. Depending on position, may develop and implement programs, provide direct leadership, and be a positive role model. Should have knowledge of the 40 Developmental Assets, benefits of recreation to a community, and project Full Moon Rising. Applications are kept in the OPEN file for four (4) months. Examples of Duties Performed - Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Designs and submits course outline. Keeps accurate records, time sheets, and attendance. Teaches safety and implements solutions to potential and real hazards. Attends orientation, quarterly staff meetings, and trainings as required. May purchase supplies, coordinating expenditures with department policy. Performs necessary repair and maintenance on program equipment. Cleans up and stores program equipment after outings. Sets up and takes down tables, chairs, and equipment used for classroom activities. Maintains order. May be asked to promote activity. May be asked to assist with reception duties at River House. May train mentors, volunteers, or new instructors as assistants. Develops and maintains good public relations. Drives 15-passenger van with or without a trailer; may be trained to drive vans with wheelchair lifts. Inspects all equipment and activity area for hazards before activity. Reports all lost or damaged equipment to Outdoor Program Supervisor. Leads pre-trip sessions with participants. Informs supervisor immediately following any accident and completes accident forms. Adheres to scheduled work hours (flexible to last-minute cancellations). Works cooperatively with staff, participants, and community members. Completes other duties as directed by the Outdoor Program Supervisor. Supports and respects diversity in the workplace. Follows procedures and policies as set by the City and Recreation Division. |

Qualifications:
|
Knowledge of: The principles of group dynamics and group interaction. The principles of therapeutic recreation including Philosophy of Community Recreation and Integration. Environmental ethics and human impact on earth's ecology. Emergency procedures and accident site management. Ability to: Teach and lead groups of various ages and ability levels. Communicate well both, orally and in writing. Work in cooperation with staff and the public. Communicate with supervisors, coworkers, and participants on sensitive issues. Identify and prevent hazards, implement solutions, maintain safe environments. Work within the guidelines set by the City and the department. Work with difficult youth and teenagers. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job. License or Certificate Current first aid and CPR certificates (advanced preferred). Valid Oregon driver’s license, or ability to obtain by date of hire; must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City’s standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355). MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. MUST PASS CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK.
