| LATERAL - POLICE OFFICER: Minimum of one (1) year employment as a full-time paid Peace Officer with a P.O.S.T. approved California Law Enforcement agency and possess a California P.O.S.T. | Representative Duties: | ||
| Patrols a designated area of the city to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the commission of crime, and to enforce motor vehicle regulations; issues traffic citations; answers calls and complaints involving fires, traffic accidents, robberies, and other misdemeanors and felonies; at accident scenes administers first aid, conducts investigation, gathers evidence, obtains witnesses, makes arrests; assists in preparation of safety education and training schedules and programs; conducts public awareness discussions; searches and books prisoners; records prisoner data and prepares personal property lists; testifies in civil and criminal courts; prepares control records including arrest and disposition records; prepares activity, and special prisoner reports; releases prisoners as instructed; receives complaints from the public by telephone. | ||

| AGE: Must be 21 years of age at time of appointment date.
EDUCATION: California P.O.S.T. requires possession of U.S. high school diploma or G.E.D. CERTIFICATE: P.O.S.T. Certificate must be valid at time of appointment date. LICENSE: Must possess a valid Class "C" California driver's license. VISION: Visual acuity in each eye not less than 20/50 vision without correction, or not less than 20/100 vision if applicant wears soft contact lenses which corrects vision to 20/20. Vision shall not be less than 20/100 vision without correction; must have normal color vision, and shall not have any permanent or progressive eye abnormalities. PHYSICAL CONDITION: Good physical condition. Weight must be proportionate to height. |

| Physical Agility Exam (Pass/Fail) Saturday, June 13, 2009 (Tentative): The physical agility exam is designed to measure the job-related physical characteristics of strength, agility and stamina required of a Police Officer.
Written Exercise: (Pass/Fail) Saturday, June 13, 2009 (Tentative): Police Officer Lateral candidates that pass the physical agility exam will be required to participate in a written exercise to demonstrate his/her written communication skills. Responses will be evaluated by the Oral Appraisal Interview Board. Background Investigation (Pass/Fail): Prior to appointment, applicants must successfully complete an investigation of their personal history and background which includes a polygraph to determine suitability for the position of Police Officer with the Bakersfield Police Department. Oral Appraisal Interview (Weighted 100%) Date to be Determined: An appraisal will be made of applicants training, education, experience, communication skills and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum rating of 70% is required to qualify for the eligible list. ** NOTE: Applicants receiving a conditional offer or employment must successfully pass a psychological examination and pre-placement medical exam which will include a substance abuse screening. Applications from individuals who have failed the psychological test for Police Officer administered by the City of Bakersfield within the past one (1) year period or failed any other portion of the examination process within a six (6) month period, are not eligible for this recruitment. |
